Overview
Minimally Invasive Spine Tumor Surgery
This involves making small incisions in the skin and using a fiberoptic camera to guide the surgeon to the tumor. This type of surgery is less invasive than open surgery, but carries similar risks and benefits. The recovery time is often shorter, however, and the risk of complications is generally lower.
Open Spine Tumor Surgery
The most common type of spinal tumor surgery is the open procedure. This involves an incision in the skin and removal of the entire tumor. This type of surgery is usually reserved for larger tumors or those with unclear boundaries. Open surgery is generally considered to be the most effective and safest option for treating spinal tumors but it also carries the highest risk of complications.
Other therapies such as radiation therapy and chemotherapy may also be recommended in combination with surgical options to target cancer cells and maximise long term patient outcomes.
