Cervical Spine Surgery
Overview
Cervical Spine Surgeries Include:
- Discectomy
- Laminotomy
- Laminectomy
- Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)
- Vertebroplasty
- Foraminotomy
Discectomy – The surgeon removes the damaged portion of the intervertebral disc, which can cause neck pain, numbness, or tingling.
Laminotomy – The surgeon removes a small portion of the lamina, the back part of the vertebra, to relieve nerve compression.
Laminectomy – Involves the removal of a larger part of the lamina.
ACDF – A procedure used to treat herniated discs, spinal instability, or degenerative disc disease. It involves the removal of the damaged disc as well as the fusion of the two vertebrae above and below the removed disc. This helps to preserve the stability of the spine and reduce pain.
Vertebroplasty – The surgeon injects a special cement-like substance between the vertebrae in order to increase stability and relieve pain.
Foraminotomy – The surgeon enlarges the hole in the vertebrae that nerves pass through, in order to relieve nerve compression.
