Interventional Cardiology at CMC Dubai

Interventional cardiologists are able to access the heart and conduct catheter treatments through various veins and arteries using miniature tubes called catheters.  Such interventions can enable patients to resolve their cardiac conditions and avoid more invasive treatments such a valve repairs and replacements.

Some of the Interventional or Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures to open clogged coronary arteries we use at CMC Hospital Dubai include:

  • Coronary Angiography
  • Balloon Angioplasty
  • Angioplasty with Stent
  • Intravascular Lithotripsy
  • Rotational Atherectomy
  • Pacemaker Implantation

FAQ's
What is an interventional cardiologist?
An interventional cardiologist is a cardiologist who specializes in treating heart conditions using minimally invasive interventional procedures, such as angioplasty and stenting, to diagnose and treat blockages in the heart and blood vessels.
What is the difference between a cardiologist and an interventional cardiologist
A cardiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating heart conditions via non-invasive procedures and medical management. An interventional cardiologist however, is a cardiologist who has additional training and expertise in using minimally invasive catheter based techniques (such as angioplasty, stenting) to treat heart conditions and unblock blood vessels. While both types of cardiologists work to improve heart health and treat heart conditions, medical management can not treat all conditions, and therefore interventional cardiologists are more specialized on using advanced techniques to diagnose and treat heart disease.
What kind of conditions do interventional cardiologists treat?
Modern techniques and advances in technology allow Interventional cardiologists to treat a wide range of heart conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart attacks, heart failure, and heart valve diseases.
Can interventional cardiology procedures be done on an outpatient basis?
Yes, many interventional cardiology procedures can be done on an outpatient basis (meaning the patient goes home same day). However there are some procedures and also some risk factors patients may have, that may mean an overnight stay is required.
How long does it take to recover after an interventional cardiology procedure?
Recovery time varies depending on the type of procedure and the patient's overall health and medical history, but most patients can return to normal activities within 3-7 days after the procedure.
When should I see an interventional cardiology consultant?
You may consider seeing an interventional cardiology consultant if you have been diagnosed with a cardiovascular condition that may benefit from minimally invasive procedures or if you have symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or other signs of heart disease.
