Robotic radical prostatectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is performed at CMC Dubai using the da Vinci Robotic System technology to remove the entire prostate. At CMC our Robotic team has performed thousands of urological robotic surgeries. We are experts in performing robotic radical prostatectomy surgery in Dubai using advanced nerve sparing techniques in order to preserve the function of the structures around the prostate. This experience and skill makes our team some of the best robotic radical prostatectomy surgeons in Dubai.
During the procedure, the surgeon controls robotic arms while seated at a control console in the operating room to perform the surgery through a number of small abdominal incisions. The use of the robotic system allows our surgeons a 3D view, more precision and makes the surgery less invasive than traditional or standard laparoscopic prostatectomy.
Most prostate cancer patients are ideal candidates for robotic surgery. However, it is recommended that the doctor should have a discussion with the patient so as to determine the most suitable course of prostate treatment.
Prior to the procedure, the patient will be provided with instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. Modification of diet prior to the procedure is important. The patient might be asked to stop eating or drinking anything at least 8 hours before the procedure.
The patient is also instructed to avoid blood thinning medication or certain supplements for a certain period before the procedure. This will help reduce the risk of excessive bleeding during the surgery. Additionally, in order to have proper healing, smoking is advised against for a period of time before the procedure and after.
During the procedure, which is performed under general anesthesia small incisions will be made in the patient’s lower abdomen through which the robotically controlled camera and other surgical tools will be passed through so as to perform the surgery.
The surgeon manipulates the robotic arms while seated at a control console in the operating room, and the robot will transform those movements into extremely precise movements inside the patient’s body. Through one of the keyhole incisions, the surgeon will remove the patient’s prostate.
After the procedure, the patient will be taken to the recovery room where his vitals will be closely monitored him and possibly treat any post-surgery pain/discomfort.
He will be encouraged to walk around after surgery so as to facilitate the healing process and prevent blood clots from forming too soon.
Sexual function can be impacted following robotic radical prostatectomy, and this depends on a variety of factors which may include:
The benefits of robotic radical prostatectomy over traditional prostatectomy include:
The Radical Robotic Prostatectomy procedure usually takes 2 to 3 hours to perform under general anesthesia.
This depends on your insurance network. Please check with your provider for exact details.
A robotic prostatectomy is a minimally invasive procedure. Our doctors are experts in this procedure which has excellent patient outcomes. However it would still be considerd a major surgery.
