Urolift Treatment in Dubai at Clemenceau Medical Center Hospital Dubai

Urolift is a minimally invasive procedure that treats an enlarged prostate or BPH. Just like its name, the procedure lifts and hold the enlarged prostate out of the way of the urethra, therefore, removing the pressure placed on the urethra and restores the normal flow of urine.

Urolift breaks the cycle of medications and their side effects without the risk of traditional surgery. The goal of urolift treatment is to relieve symptoms caused by enlarged prostate so an individual can regain his quality of life and resume normal daily activities.

As men age, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), often known as prostate gland enlargement, becomes common. This causes problems with the bladder, urethra, and kidneys. Unpleasant urinary symptoms such as a blocked urine flow might also be caused by an enlarged prostate gland.

Symptoms of BHP

Some of the common symptoms of an enlarged prostate include:

  • Difficulty starting the flow of urine
  • Weak urine stream
  • Frequent or urgent need to urinate
  • Increased frequency of urination at night
  • Dribbling at the end of urination
  • Inability to completely empty the bladder

Suitable Candidate for Urolift Treatment

An individual may be considered an ideal candidate for Urolift if:

  • He no longer wishes to take BPH medication
  • He has used BPH medications and is dissatisfied with the results
  • The individual wishes to keep sexual ability intact
  • He prefers a minimally invasive treatment that can be performed in their doctor’s office
  • The individual is unwilling to have major surgery because of the potential complications and negative effects

The Urolift Procedure

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in the urologist’s office during a one-time visit, which approximately takes an hour to complete.

The doctor passes the urolift delivery device through the obstructed urethra using cystoscopic guidance. In most prostate cases, it requires four implants. The content of the implant includes a nitinol capsular tab, a retractable PET suture, and a stainless steel urethral end piece.

The doctor will place the implants essentially at the 2 and 10 o’clock positions of the prostate or as needed, to mechanically lift and separate the obstructing tissue.

Recovery After Urolift Procedure

As a result of the lifting and separating effects of the implants, the patient typically experiences improved urination almost immediately. An individual can drive to and from the procedure since general anesthesia is not used.

The improvement in lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to BPH can last for up to four years.

Complications of Urolift Treatment

There are two major complications that commonly occur as a result of BPH procedures. These are:

  • Retrograde ejaculation
  • Urinary incontinence

However, if the implants are properly placed, patients should have little or no incontinence and little or no retrograde ejaculation.

Benefits of Urolift Treatment

The urolift procedure has several benefits compared to conventional surgery. These include:

  • Results are quick and long-lasting
  • No removal of prostate tissue
  • Minimal downtime
  • It does not require continuous medication
  • It does not cause unwanted sexual dysfunction side effects
  • Often, men report good results and an improvement in the quality of their lives
  • Since there are no significant surgical incisions made, it is minimally invasive
