Minimally Invasive Robotic Myomectomy / Robotic Fibroids Surgery in Dubai at CMC Hospital

Robotic myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove fibroids in a woman’s uterus. The surgeon uses a computer to control the surgical instruments that are passed through small abdominal incisions. At CMC Dubai our US Board OBGYN has years of experience conducting robotic myomectomies, ensuring we provide the best surgeon for robotic myomectomy surgery in Dubai.

Fibroids can develop on the outside of the uterus, inside the uterine wall, or protrude into the interior of the uterus. In the uterus, fibroids can develop in one or many locations at once. Typically, fibroids are not cancerous.

Why Robotic Myomectomy is Done

The doctor may recommend robotic myomectomy as an option to remove fibroids from an individual due to:

  • Smaller fibroids or limited number of fibroids: The operation is most effective for smaller uterine fibroids since they are simpler to remove considering the fact that robotic myomectomy uses small incisions.
  • Uterine fibroids that result in excessive bleeding or cause chronic pain: Robotic myomectomy could be an effective method of obtaining relief.
  • Certain types of fibroids: Robotic myomectomy can be used by surgeons to remove fibroids that are intramural – within the uterine wall, or extramural – fibroids that protrude from the uterus.

The Ideal Candidate for Robotic Myomectomy

An individual might need a myomectomy if she has fibroids that cause severe symptoms like:

  • Bloating
  • Infertility
  • Heavy and prolonged bleeding during menstruation
  • Pregnancy issues
  • Frequent urination
  • Constipation

Preparation for a Robotic-assisted Myomectomy

Prior to the procedure, the surgeon might recommend that the patient undergoes some tests such as:

  • Ultrasound: This imaging test will bring a clear visualization of the patient’s fibroids.
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG): Checks heart rhythm
  • MRI: Will give detailed information about the patient’s fibroids
  • Blood tests: Examine kidney function and test for infections and anemia

The patient has to inform her surgeon of any medication she may be taking at home including herbal medications and other over-the-counter medications. The patient is also instructed to stay nil-by-mouth at least 6 hours before the surgery.

During the Procedure

During the procedure, which is performed under general anesthesia, small incisions (cuts) are made near the patient’s belly button. The surgeon uses a tube to deflate the patient’s belly – this will help him/her get a better view of the surgical site.

The laparoscope and other surgical instruments are inserted into the patient’s abdomen through the incisions. The surgeon then attaches the laparoscope and the other instruments to the robotic arms of the computer. At the console (control area), the surgeon will remotely control the surgery.

He/she then uses the robotic controller to move the tools and remove the fibroids. The surgical instruments will be taken out after the procedure. The incisions will then be sutured and dressed.

What to Expect After Robotic Myomectomy

  • The patient will be taken to the recovery room where her vital signs will be monitored
  • The patient is likely to go home on the same day or stay overnight
  • Some pain might be experienced but the doctor will recommend pain medication for the same
  • Fibroid symptoms may go away completely after surgery

Possible Risks of Robotic Myomectomy

Robotic myomectomy is considered a safe procedure, our doctors perform them on a routine basis, however each fibroids case in unique and some patients may have higher risk factors than others.
