Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor, which is a type of medication that blocks the production of estrogen in the body. This can be helpful in treating breast cancer, as estrogen can help breast cancer cells to grow. Anastrozole is used to treat early-stage breast cancer in women who have gone through menopause, as well as to treat advanced breast cancer in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. It is also sometimes used to prevent breast cancer in women who are at high risk of developing the disease.
