Professeur de médecine à l’American University of Beirut Medical Center et ancien chef de la division de gastroentérologie de l’AUBMC de 2002 à 2017. Il est également professeur consultant à l’université Duke de Durham, en Caroline du Nord, aux États-Unis, où il a suivi une formation et obtenu la certification de l’American Board en médecine interne et en gastroentérologie. Il est membre de l’American College of Gastroenterology et de l’American Gastroenterological Association, ainsi que du Royal College of Physicians (Londres).
Le Dr Sharara est membre de l’AGA, de l’ACG, de la WEO, de l’ECCO et de la Société libanaise de gastroentérologie.

Dr Sharara has over 200 published peer-reviewed articles and 4 book chapters and serves on the editorial boards of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and World Journal of Gastroenterology. He is the recipient of the Golden Jubilee Clinical Research Excellence Award from the Lebanese National Council for Research in 2012. He is a member of the Lebanese National Committee on CRC Screening and is the Coordinator of the IBD Interest Group in the Lebanese Society of Gastroenterology.
Main research interests: Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis), colonoscopy screening and quality in colonoscopy
