Biography
Professor Sherif Khaled is a distinguished orthopedic surgeon and one of the region’s leading experts in pelvic and acetabular trauma, hip and knee joint reconstruction, and primary and revision joint arthroplasty. A Professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University since 2016, he has built a career spanning more than 25 years marked by advanced surgical expertise, academic leadership, and international contributions to orthopedic education.
Professor Khaled’s clinical practice focuses on complex hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty, including minimally invasive approaches such as the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) and advanced reconstruction techniques for primary and revision cases. He is also widely recognized for his extensive experience in pelvic and acetabular surgery, lower limb trauma management, and modern fixation techniques. His international surgical training includes fellowships and observerships at world-renowned centers in the USA, France, Belgium, and the UK.
In addition to his academic role at Cairo University, Dr. Khaled serves as a visiting consultant in the UAE, and as a senior consultant at multiple major Egyptian hospitals, including As Salam International, Nile Badrawy Cleopatra Hospital, and others.
A committed educator, Professor Khaled is a long-standing International Faculty Member of AO Trauma, participating in—and often chairing—regional and international AO courses, masterclasses, and cadaveric training programs. He has held multiple elected positions within AO MENA, including roles on the Education Committee, Community Development Committee, and the AO Pelvis & Acetabulum Task Force. He is also a founding member of the Egyptian Pelvis, Hip, and Knee Society (EPHAKS) and an examiner for MSc, MD, and fellowship orthopedic examinations in Egypt.
Professor Khaled’s scientific contributions include over 35 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters—including authorship in the authoritative AO Principles of Fracture Management (3rd Edition)—and an active role as a reviewer for leading international orthopedic journals. His work spans pelvic trauma, joint reconstruction, biomechanics, shoulder surgery, minimally invasive fracture fixation, and enhanced recovery in arthroplasty.
Throughout his career, he has been an invited speaker, chairperson, and educator in hundreds of international conferences and courses across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, including ICJR, SICOT, AO Davos Courses, EOA Congresses, and EPHS meetings. He is a member of prestigious international societies including the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the International Musculoskeletal Society.
